Overview

There are many options for personalizing your BoldTrail website: you can change the color theme, what your front page carousels include, what your menu tabs are titled, and much more.

One popular and easy way to personalize your BoldTrail website is located at the top of your website settings list and it enables you to change the layout of your homepage widgets.

If you're not familiar with HTML, you will still be able to use the widgets fairly simply without needing any HTML knowledge. You may use the 'Clear Website Editor' button if you feel that you've messed up your site. Getting comfortable with HTML can enhance your website-building experience though!

Keep in mind, if you want to create custom widgets you'll need to get familiar with HTML in order to proceed.

These two guides will get you started in the right direction:

What Are Widgets?

When discussing widgets in this guide, specifically it's referring to the homepage widgets that are displayed on your website.

The highlighted region above is what shows up by default on your BoldTrail website. That section is where you can add pre-made widgets, or append multiple widgets to add them to your page.

A widget is a chunk or a snippet of HTML with (almost) endless possibilities. When it comes to customizing your site, your Admins/Broker can get widgets designed and built, and then you can add them onto the homepage of your personal site if you wish or if you are required to by your brokerage. This makes it very easy to get custom content added.

The design of the widget is entirely open. The advanced website customization article walks through customizing the editable region of the website in detail. You can follow that guide to create a widget if you desire. Essentially, anything that is entered into the editable region can be all or part of a widget.

In the screenshot above, you can see a collection of boxes with image backgrounds. If you changed the text, images, and links, you could save all of the HTML as a widget for future use.

How to Use the Default Widgets

Default widgets are tiles that can be added to your homepage which have calls to action that take users quickly to different parts of your site.

The default widgets are dependant on the template you choose from your Website Settings.

Adding Widgets

Although the default widget selections shown above are useful, there are situations in which you may want to include a widget that is NOT automatically included in the default option you selected.

To do this first click on Web & IDX tab from the main navigation. Then select 'Widgets'.

  1. Widgets that you can add to your site appear in this section. They may be default widgets that were generated by you, or they could be custom widgets created by an Admin.

  2. Here you can revert your widgets to the default.

  3. If you end up changing your mind you can find any widgets you've used in the 'My History' tab at the top.

How to Add a Widget to Your Site

From the Widget Library on the left, click 'Add'. You may also preview the widget by clicking the eye icon.

It will then appear in the 'My Homepage Widgets' section to the right.

You may organize your widgets as you like using the arrow icon to the right of the widget info.

How to Create a Custom Widget

From the widgets section in Website Customization find '' on the left and select 'Add'.

A popup will appear where you can add the name, description, and widget HTML content.

  • The description should be accurate so that your Agents can understand what information the widget will display or lead their contacts to.

  • The HTML content section is literally HTML that is inline to the page. It can consist of any valid HTML. You don't need to specify <html>, <head>, or <body> tags as this content is in-line to the website.

The widget appears in the 'My Homepage Widgets' section with add/edit buttons to manage them. You cannot preview the content, only the title, and description.

Featured Areas Widgets

You can add up to 9 featured area pages to your website easily with the Featured Area widget.

Click the 'Edit' icon > 'Source Code' and you can begin to add the areas you'd like featured!

You may even add more specific search criteria using the popup modal (essentially linking to a multi-property Squeeze Page).

Required Fields

Area Name - The name of the featured area. This will display on your website!

Location - Select the actual location you'd like displayed. You may select from city, county, zip code, or choose an area from the map.

  • You may toggle on geographical areas if you'd prefer listings based on latitude and longitude instead of MLS areas.

Add Imagery - Add an image that will be shown on your website to represent the featured area. You can easily upload a new photo or use one you've already added to your image library.

Optional Fields

Listing Type(s) - Choose listing type; this can be any single property type or you can include multiple types.

Style - References home style such as 'ranch, 'apartment', 'cottage' or more. These are provided by your MLS.

SqFt - If you'd like to display a minimum or maximum sqft you may insert those values here.

Beds/Baths - Select a minimum number of beds or baths to be displayed.

Acres - Select a minimum number of acres.

Options - These are pulled directly from your MLS! Include options such as 'Walkable', 'Fireplace', 'Private Pool', and more.

After saving your featured areas from the widgets section they will populate on your website homepage.

Resetting All Customizations

Clicking the 'Revert to Default' button will wipe out all customization and reset the page to its default state for the domain selected in the scope menu.
